Prairie-Chicken Conservation Plan

A room full of oil and gas industry representatives, farmers and ranchers and public officials listened with great interest and apprehension Tuesday morning to details of the range-wide conservation plan for the Lesser Prairie-Chicken (LPC) following the March 28 announcement by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) of its decision to list the Lesser Prairie-Chicken as “threatened.”

After brief comments by State Representative Ken King, offering his assistance to those affected by the listing, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department biologist Sean Kyle kicked off the discussion with this assurance: “What we want to let people know is yes, the bird is getting listed, but the world isn’t coming to an end.”
