Where there was smoke, there was fire this weekend, as 40 teams competed in the Canadian River Beach Club Calf Fry and BBQ Cook- Off held at Jones Pavilion.
Beach Club member Kimbra Julian said this year’s turnout was by far the best in the annual event’s five-year history. The competition drew twice as many cook teams as the previous year, and despite a sound drenching of the pavilion grounds the night before, accompanied by a spectacular display of lightning, Julian estimated Saturday’s crowd at around 1,500–1,600.
