Heralding The Holiday Season

The cold weather on Friday caused the number of delivered meals to rise for this year’s 106th Annual WCTU Christmas Bazaar. The volunteer cooks, servers and runners delivered a whooping 330 turkey dinners, including 24 Meals on Wheels, and served 192 diners in the library basement. John C. Isaacs of the Hemphill County Library Foundation opened the proceedings. The bazaar’s proceeds benefit the library with book purchases and other things like magazines, videos, CDs and reference materials. It also funds the Summer Reading Program. It takes a village to put on such an event and while it’s changed over the years, the idea is the same—to “bring literary and moral enlightenment to the community.”
