On Thursday, April 4, 2024, in Hemphill County’s 31st District Court, Canadian resident Jared Fernando Barrera was convicted of four first-degree felony counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault, and of one Class A misdemeanor charge of Indecent Assault.

Barrera, 20, was arrested and taken into custody by Hemphill County Sheriff’s officials on April 25, 2023.

Each first-degree felony count carries a sentence of eight years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division. The misdemeanor charge carries a sentence of one year confinement in the Hemphill County Jail. All sentences will run concurrently.
