Property tax cuts go into effect

A total of $18 billion in property tax cuts were approved by more than 80% of voters in the November general election and should be reflected in property tax bills that are due by Jan. 31. The cuts come in the form of increased home exemptions, lower school district rates, and limiting the amount property appraisals can rise.

Comptroller distributes $1.1 billion in monthly sales tax revenue to local governments

(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for December, 2.5 percent more than in December 2022. These allocations are based on sales made in October by businesses that report tax monthly.

City ground storage tank rehab project is underway

Rehabilitation work began this week on the city’s 500,000-gallon water storage tank, located at the north end of Sixth Street across from the Oasis Cove Apartments. The work is one piece of a larger municipal infrastructure project made possible in part by $588,000 in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding awarded to the City of Canadian.
