The American Farmland Trust has received a generous gift from H-E-B’s Spirit of Giving Fund to provide disaster recovery assistance to farmers and ranchers in the Texas Panhandle who were impacted by the Smokehouse Creek Fire this winter.

American Farmland Trust’s Texas Regional team secured funds to support the recovery of farmers and ranchers in the Texas Panhandle impacted by the Smokehouse Creek wildfire and will be awarding these funds through the Brighter Future Fund’s National Grant for Historically Underserved Farmers and Ranchers. The wildfire burned 1,058,482 acres across the panhandle, killing over 10,000 cattle. Farmers and ranchers in Hemphill, Hutchison, Roberts, Gray, Wheeler and other impacted counties are eligible for grants of up to $15,000 to offset wildfire recovery.

Applications will be available through AFT’s Brighter Future Fund grant program where applicants can select that they have been impacted by the wildfires. Applications to the fund open July 1 and close July 8.

Farmers and ranchers across the country are eligible to apply. To learn more about the process and review the application materials, visit https://farmland.org/bff-ufr-applicants/. Get Updates on AFT's Brighter Future Fund at https://farmland.salsalabs.org/bffupdates/index.html.
